The club confirmed this afternoon that Triple-A first baseman Brett Wallace has been traded to the Blue Jays for cash considerations. I heard earlier today that it’s a “nominal” fee.

Also, the Orioles confirmed that left-hander Randy Wolf was released from his Triple-A contract. I wrote yesterday that Wolf opted out of his deal.

Wallace, a former first-round draft pick, was batting .265/.329/.389 with 12 doubles, 10 homers and 35 RBIs in 90 games at Norfolk. The Orioles signed him to a minor league deal on March 23.

The trade frees up a spot for Double-A Bowie first baseman Christian Walker, who’s expected to move up one level in the system following the Eastern League All-Star Game.

Walker, a fourth-round pick in 2012 out of the University of South Carolina, was batting .300/.368/.518 with 15 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs and 77 RBIs in 94 games with Bowie before today.

Other moves are coming in the system.

Outfielder Dariel Alvarez has been told that he’s moving up from Bowie to Norfolk after playing in yesterday’s Futures Game. Also, outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is expected to be promoted from Single-A Frederick to Bowie after beginning the season at low Single-A Delmarva.

The Orioles released pitcher Tim Alderson, also a former first-round pick, from his Triple-A contract over the weekend. Alderson was 2-4 with a 6.12 ERA in 28 relief appearances.

Wolf, who signed a minor league deal on June 23, allowed nine runs (seven earned) and 18 hits in 15 innings over six appearances, including one start. He walked five and struck out 12.
