WASHINGTON – Orioles center fielder Adam Jones and infielder/outfielder Steve Pearce have been recognized for their hot play of late, as they’ve been named American League co-Players of the Week for the week ending July 6.
Jones batted .423 (11-for-26) with a double, two homers, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base. Pearce batted .333 (10-for-30) with two doubles, three homers, nine RBIs, eight runs scored and two steals as each player claimed his first career weekly honor in…WASHINGTON – Orioles center fielder Adam Jones and infielder/outfielder Steve Pearce have been recognized for their hot play of late, as they’ve been named American League co-Players of the Week for the week ending July 6.
Jones batted .423 (11-for-26) with a double, two homers, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base. Pearce batted .333 (10-for-30) with two doubles, three homers, nine RBIs, eight runs scored and two steals as each player claimed his first career weekly honor in helping Baltimore to a 6-1 week.
They are the second and third Orioles to earn the honor this season after designated hitter Nelson Cruz won for the week ending June 1.
Jones finished tied for second in the AL in batting average and hits while ranking fifth in slugging percentage (.692) for the week. Pearce led the majors with 21 total bases while tying for lead in homers, RBIs and runs scored, and finishing fourth in the AL with a .700 slugging percentage.
Other noteworthy performances this past week included Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings (.423, 5 2B, 1 HR, 7 R) and Angels starting pitcher Garrett Richards (2-0, 2.35 ERA, 15 1/3 IP, 3 BB, 20 SO), who is a candidate for the 2014 All-Star Game Final Vote.
In recognition of their American League co-Players of the Week Awards, Jones and Pearce will each be awarded a watch courtesy of Game Time.
