The Orioles have been involved in three consecutive shutouts (Saturday by Jason Hammel at Atlanta, Sunday by Wei-Yin Chen and four relievers at Atlanta, and Monday by the Mets’ R.A. Dickey.) According to Elias, the last time the Orioles were involved in three straight shutouts was Sept. 27-29, 2010 at Tampa Bay. Brian Matusz and two relievers blanked the Rays in game one, David Price and Rafael Soriano shut out the Orioles in game two, and Kevin Millwood and two relievers blanked the Rays in game three.
After totaling 12 runs and 16 hits against the Pirates in the final game of the last homestand, the Orioles have scored nine runs and collected 17 hits in their last four games.
The Orioles are batting .152 with no home runs on the trip, but they’ve split four games.
The Orioles have been involved in two one-hitters in a span of three games. According to Elias, the last time the Orioles were involved in one- or no-hitters twice in a three-game span was June 8-10, 1975, when Jim Palmer one-hit the Royals and Oakland’s Jim Perry one-hit the Orioles.
The Nationals will start Jordan Zimmermann, Edwin Jackson and Chien-Ming Wang in the three-game series at Camden Yards that begins Friday night.
