The bottom of the 10th inning began with Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak tagging out Felix Pie, and both dugouts and bullpens emptying.
Pie started to retreat as Smoak fielded the ball, then lowered a shoulder into him. They exchanged words, with Pie clearly the aggressor, but order was quickly restored.
Pie spread his arms apart and started jawing at Smoak as they went nose-to-nose. The guy’s got a short fuse.

Robert Andino wasted no time getting into the middle of it. We’ll give him the Alan Mills Award.
Adam Jones followed with his third hit, and second double, to put the winning run in scoring position against left-hander Aaron Laffey. Matt Wieters struck out, and Mark Reynolds stranded his fifth runner by lining to center field.
Reynolds is 0-for-5, lowering his average to .179.
Update: Six up, six down for Jim Johnson. Jeremy Accardo has replaced him in the 12th inning.
Yes, I said the 12th inning.
The Mariners have walked Derrek Lee intentionally in the ninth and 11th innings to get to Jake Fox, who’s 0-for-2 since entering the game.
J.J. Hardy has a home run, two singles and a walk. Brian Roberts has two sacrifice bunts.
Yes, I said two sacrifice bunts.
Update II: What a game. Jack Cust doubled with two outs, but Michael Olivo was called out at the plate – Nick Markakis to Brian Roberts to Matt Wieters. Olivo might have snuck his foot in there before the tag. Hard to tell whether he went over the plate, rather than touching it. Still a great relay and tag.
