Starting in left field again tonight, Felix Pie launched a ball into the second deck in the seventh inning to reduce Texas’ lead to 4-2.
Pie had two hits and an RBI on Tuesday. He tripled last night and homered tonight.
I’m not putting him in the Hall of Fame, but he’s hard to miss.
Pie has collected hits in eight of his 11 starts this season. He’s totaled 11 hits in his last eight games. That’s an interesting symmetry.
Too bad there was such a large gap after his eighth game.

I could have sworn that I saw Pie reach for his right calf after failing to beat out an infield bouncer earlier tonight, but I might have been mistaken. The MASN camera didn’t stay on him, but he stayed in the game.
The Orioles drove Tommy Hunter from the game and crept to within 4-3 in the seventh. Miguel Tejada stamped out the rally with a double-play bouncer.
Update: Pie makes an impact when he’s getting hits or getting hit. He took a Darren Oliver pitch off his hand with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to force in the tying run, and Craig Tatum walked to give the Orioles the lead.
Pie apparently dodged an injury, though head athletic trainer Richie Bancells rushed out of the dugout to check on him. There’s never a relaxed stretch with Pie. I guess it comes with the territory.
