Pomeranz won’t accompany the Orioles to Toronto. He’ll stay back in Baltimore and undergo a MRI before a decision is made on his status. But manager Buck Showalter conceded that a DL move is likely.
Showalter indicated that the Orioles could replace Pomeranz with a position player, since they’re currently working with a three-man bench. Outfielder Endy Chavez and third baseman Mark Reynolds started again today at Double-A Bowie, and Showalter is waiting for the reports.
The other alternative, of course, is calling up a reliever.
“We can go either way,” Showalter said.
Darren O’Day came into the game in the seventh once Pomeranz was injured.
Pomeranz allowed his first two earned runs of the season at any level in his last appearance on Friday. He tossed a combined 23 1/3 scoreless innings at Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk.
With the Orioles, Pomeranz has allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings over three games. He’s had two stints in the majors.
