O's Player of the Game - Pitcher David Hernandez. He followed up an excellent outing at Yankee Stadium with one today at Fenway Park. This afternoon he pitched a career-high seven innings and allowed just five hits with one run. He did not walk a batter and fanned two. In the two starts at New York and Boston he gave up two runs and eight hits over 13 innings for an ERA of 1.38. Over his last four starts, Hernandez is 2-0, 2.45. Those four starts all came on the road at Los Angeles, Seattle, New York and Boston. On the year he is now 3-2, 3.20. He retired the first nine batters today on just 35 pitches. He threw 110 pitches on the day, 66 for strikes. Of the 21 outs he recorded today, 17 came on fly balls or pop ups. The Orioles ended an 11-game losing streak at Fenway Park, picking up their first win in Boston since July 11, 2008. They are 3-13 at Boston since the start of last year. The O's are a combined 5-17 this year vs. Boston and New York and are 37-38 in all their other games. Nick the Stick - Nick Markakis hit cleanup today for the first time this year. He became the O's 6th different cleanup hitter following Aubrey Huff, Melvin Mora, Luke Scott, Ty Wigginton ande Oscar Salazar. Markakis went 2 for 4 with a double, homer and 3 RBI. He is now batting 10 for 25 (.400) with three homers and 7 RBI during a six-game batting streak. He went 14-38/4/9 on the nine-game road trip. Nolan Reimold had a big weekend in Boston. Today, he was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI. In the series, he went 7 for 10 with three doubles. His average increased from .259 to .281. After scoring just three runs in the first two games of the Boston series and 12 runs during a five-game losing streak, the O's got six runs today. The O's went just 2-7 on this road trip but out-hit their opponents 88 to 74 during the nine games. The O's improved to 16-34 this year on the road, 2-16 this year on the road vs. AL East teams and 3-27 in their last 30 road games in the division. Today's game ended a stretch where the O's played 16 of the last 19 games on the road. Felix Pie was 2 for 4 today with a double, run scored and RBI. Over his last seven games, he is 9 for 22 with 5 RBI. Adam Jones went 0 for 10 the last two days as his average dropped from .307 to .298. It's the first time this year his average has been under the .300 mark.
