The O’s improved to 2-11 on the year and 2-5 on the road. They are 1-3 on this ten-game road trip. Oakland falls to 6-2 at home.

Hi Ty: Ty Wigginton got the scoring started with a two-run double in the 3rd and ended it with a two-run homer in the 9th for a 2 for 5, 4-RBI day. Over his last six games, Wigginton is 7 for 22 with four homers and 10 RBI.

The Orioles held a lead after just 31 innings on the year, but today led for good after scoring three runs in the top of the third.

The Orioles entered today just 2 for 44 on the season batting with runners in scoring position and two outs. Today, they went 3 for 7 with 5 RBI in those spots. For the game they went 5 for 11 with RISP after going just 1 for 24 over the last four games.

He’s a keeper: Lefty Brian Matusz improved to 2-0, 4.34. He gave up three runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. It was his first quality start of the year but the Orioles are 2-1 on the season in his three starts.

The Orioles are also 7-4 in Matusz’s 11 career Major League starts. He is also 5-0, 3.40 over his last six games, dating to last year.

Jim Johnson needed just 23 pitches over the last two innings to record his first save of the year and the Orioles’ second. It’s his 12th career save. The Orioles improve to 2-3 when leading after eight innings.

Pen gets mightier: Despite blowing the save in Saturday’s game, the Oriole bullpen has started to pitch better. The pen put up 2 2/3 scoreless today and has an ERA of 2.35 over the last five games. The bullpen ERA for the year is down to 4.54.

A’s starter Brett Anderson pitched 12 shutout innings over his first two starts, but gave up six runs today. A’s starters had been 6-0, 2.30. This was also the first time on the season Oakland gave up more than five runs in one game.

The Orioles scored just seven runs in the first three games of this series, before scoring a season-best eight runs today. The previous season high was six runs.

The Orioles had scored three runs or less in nine of the season’s first 12 games. The Orioles had scored just 23 total runs during the nine consecutive losses.

Jonesey: Adam Jones went 2 for 5 with a run scored. It was his 4th multi-hit game. Cesar Izturis went 2 for 4 and scored twice, matching his hit total from the previous four games.

Nolan Reimold’s two-run double in the 5th snapped a 2 for 18 stretch. Nick Markakis was 2 for 5 with an RBI and has reached base in all 13 games.

Monday night at 10:10, the Orioles begin a three-game series at Seattle with Brad Bergesen (0-1, 11.74) facing RHP Doug Fister (1-1, 1.50).

Bergesen has allowed 10 ER in 7 2/3 in his first two starts. Last season, in three starts vs. Seattle, he went 1-1, 2.14.

The 26-year-old Fister is coming off an outing Tuesday when he pitched eight shutout innings vs. Oakland, allowing just three hits.

The Orioles went 4-5 vs. the M’s last year, including a 3-3 mark at SafeCo Field. Luke Scott hit .300-3-12 vs. Seattle in eight games and that included a 7-RBI night vs. the M’s July 7th.
