The Orioles wasted another quality start from Kevin Millwood. They’ve scored 87 runs for him in his 24 outings (3.6 per game), and only 51 (2.1) while he’s been on the mound.

In his last 21 starts, the Orioles have scored 44 runs (2.1) while he’s been in the game.

“The tempo was good and it makes for good plays behind him,” manager Buck Showalter said. “Curveball was there, cutter. For the most part, with some exceptions, he got the fastball in better places, but he had to be pretty much perfect to match (Luke) French.

“We would have liked to win tonight. We wasted a pretty good pitching effort and that’s disappointing for the guys in that clubhouse, I know.”

Armando Gabino pretty much put the game out of reach by serving up Matt Tuiasosopo’s three-run homer in the ninth.

In four appearances with the Orioles, Gabino has allowed five runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, with three walks, one strikeout and two home runs.

“Command of his fastball’s been a challenge for him,” Showalter said. “We know what his repertoire is and things he has to do to be successful. Got beat on a breaking ball today, which was a lot different than the one he threw before. We were a little short on bullets down there tonight with some people we had to use extended last night and before. We get through that inning, we might have a little different approach there in the ninth inning, but his breaking ball wasn’t as crisp as we’ve seen it. It didn’t have the finish on it.”
