Matt Wieters was supposed to make the trip to Fort Myers tomorrow, but the catcher will stay back in Sarasota after Carl Crawford hit him in the right arm with his backswing. Wieters stayed in the game after making some practice throws, but manager Buck Showalter will give him tomorrow off and return him to the lineup on Monday.

Wieters asked Showalter to wait until tomorrow to decide, but he’s already off the travel roster.

If Brian Matusz and Justin Duchscherer report tomorrow in good health, they’ll pitch in Tuesday’s game against the Phillies in Clearwater.

Showalter indicated that his first round of cuts would come after Wednesday’s split-squad games.

Showalter was satisfied with Brad Bergesen’s outing today.

“He came back and pitched well. Got his work in, got his pitch count where it needed to be. Do it again in five days,” Showalter said.

Batting ninth today, Joe Mahoney finished with three hits and a stolen base.

“He’s good,” Showalter said. “He was our minor league Player of the Year and you can see it. He’s what they look like. It was a fun day for him.”

Mahoney has the highest vertical jump in the organization.
