masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgAfter giving up just two runs in six innings in his first O’s start, Scott Feldman gave up seven runs and nine hits in his second O’s start tonight.

His former team, Texas, knocked him out of the game during a six-run sixth inning as the Rangers won 8-5 in the series opener.

“It wasn’t too good,” Feldman said. “Got an early lead there and wasn’t able to hold it down. It stings to give up a big inning like that. That sixth inning was a rough one. Made some decent pitches, it just seemed like everything they were hitting that inning was in a great spot. Got to look at the tape and see what adjustments I need to make for the next time.”

On May 6, while pitching for the Cubs, he had an outing of seven shutout innings on just two hits against Texas.

“When I faced them the first time I was getting a lot more first-pitch strikes, getting ahead in the count and was able to control the at-bats better,” Feldman said as he falls to 0-1 with an ERA of 7.15 in two O’s starts.

Matt Wieters talked about Feldman’s outing.

“He threw the ball fine,” Wieters said. “They found a few holes in the sixth and dropped some balls in. He missed some barrels, but they found some holes and got a big inning there.

“I don’t think he lost any effectiveness (in that sixth inning). He threw well and located well. Hopefully we could have gotten him some more runs early.”

Adam Jones said it was a mixed bag for an O’s offense that scored just 16 runs during a 2-4 road trip. They got five tonight but also left 10 on base, going 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

“We didn’t get hits with runners in scoring position, that’s the negative,” Jones said. “I look at the positive. We created the opportunity. Okay. Created 12 scenarios to get a hit. I’ll take that.

“We scored five. The game into that big inning, the sixth inning and we were unable to come back from it. We let Holland off the hook some, but he made some big pitches at times also.”
