The Orioles reinstated left-hander Cade Povich from the 15-day injured list this afternoon and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

Povich had left elbow inflammation and made two rehab starts with Double-A Chesapeake, posting a 3.86 ERA in seven innings. He made four appearances (three starts) with the Orioles and had a 5.12 ERA over 19 1/3 innings.

The Orioles claimed catcher Dominic Keegan on waivers from the Rays and optioned him to Chesapeake. The depth is a bit thin with the Orioles carrying three catchers and having three with Norfolk.

Keegan, a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 out of Vanderbilt, was hitting .191/.327/.303 with six home runs and 23 RBIs in 51 games with Triple-A Durham. He’s a career .264/.360/.432 hitter with 65 doubles, 10 triples, 42 home runs and 199 RBIs in 350 games over five minor league seasons.

Pitcher Kyle Nicolas was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. The Orioles acquired him from the Reds on June 4 for cash considerations, and he allowed three runs and four hits with eight walks and six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings with Norfolk.

The Orioles haven’t posted their lineup for tonight or made a move that impacts their roster.

Blaze Alexander has three multi-RBI games in the last five after totaling two through his first 64 games. He’s slashing .374/.421/.557 (43-for-115) in 44 games since May 1.

No Orioles starter has a lower ERA than Brandon Young’s 3.07 in 12 games. He allowed nine earned runs in 28 1/3 innings in May and seven earned runs in 24 1/3 innings this month.

Opponents are batting .207/.271/.264 against Young this month.

Young allowed 1.52 home runs per nine innings in his first six starts but has decreased the number to 0.24 over his last six.

The Orioles are 10-2 in Young’s start.

Young faced the Nationals on May 17 in D.C. and allowed two runs and five hits in 3 2/3 innings in his shortest outing of the season. Jacob Young hit a solo homer.

The Orioles are 1 ½ games out of the Wild Card and a half-game out of third place, with the Blue Jays losing four in a row. Only five American League teams are above .500.

Nationals left-hander Foster Griffin was the 28th overall pick by the Royals in 2014 out of The First Academy in Orlando. He pitched in Japan from 2023-25 before the Nationals signed him in December, and he’s 8-2 with a 3.15 ERA and 1.062 WHIP in 16 starts.

Griffin is on quite a roll, with only one run allowed in each of his four starts this month totaling 24 1/3 innings. Left-handers are hitting .165/.239/.320 against him, and right-handers are hitting .238/.296/.418.

In 23 major league games, Griffin has held left-handers to a .162 average and .544 OPS. He’s never faced the Orioles.

Taylor Ward is the only Oriole to face Griffin and he has a double and RBI in one at-bat.

The Orioles are 9-14 against left-handers after last night’s 3-1 win.

The Nationals have lost four in a row and are 41-42.

James Wood is hitting .346 against fastballs this season and is making contact on 83.1 percent of them.

Nasim Nuñez’s .371 average this month is almost .200 points higher than his average in May (.173).
