A solar outage is a phenomenon that occurs when the sun crosses the equator and traces an arc that places it directly behind the broadcast satellites used for transmitting the baseball game. The sun’s powerful solar radiation interferes with the microwave frequencies used to communicate with the satellites, essentially “swamping” the signal from the satellite for a brief period.
The solar outage will occur between 3:28 p.m. and 3:42 p.m. on Sunday.
