Pope, the O’s fourth-round pick out of a Georgia High School in 2005, has come back from a major injury.
He missed all of last year with a broken right femur, an injury that occurred right before the start of the season.
He has overcome a lot to get back to the minors including three surgeries and Trembley, who saw Pope last fall at instructional league, praised the young man for his amazing comeback story.
“I was trying to get a hold of Kieron Pope. I tried to call him today. Like I said yesterday, that’s one of the great stories going on in our organization. I left him a message, he must be out on the field.
“I think that’s a great story. Last year when I went to instructional league, he was just going through a walking program on a treadmill. That’s how badly his leg was shattered.”
Pope went 3 for 13 in his first three Delmarva games. He struck out eight times, but the important thing was, after all he has been through, he made it back to play in the minors.
The O’s skipper, who has had some trying times himself this year, took time to let everyone know how he felt about Pope’s comeback.
