SAN DIEGO – Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette, sitting with reporters today in his suite at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, indicated that he’s more likely to sign a free agent than make a trade at this stage of the Winter Meetings.

“It looks like there are more free agents closer to signing,” Duquette said.
Duquette said he’s “reluctant” to trade any of his starting pitchers.
Duquette also said he’s in the market for right-handed and left-handed hitting outfielders/designated hitters. He expects to meet with free agent Delmon Young’s representatives within the next few days, but hasn’t spoken to the Braves concerning outfielder Justin Upton.
It’s apparent that Duquette is interested in left-hander Craig Breslow, judging by the grin on his face when asked about the free agent reliever. He noted Breslow’s age and how the pitcher attended Yale University. Duquette has done his homework on the guy.
The Orioles maintain interest in catcher Nick Hundley, who is trying to find a starting job.
Center fielder Adam Jones is at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. He lives in San Diego and is participating Tuesday in a hitting clinic.
Asked again about reports that he’d like to become president/CEO of the Blue Jays, Duquette repeated that he’s here to put together the strongest Orioles team possible for 2015.
“I’m here with the Orioles,” he said, “and that’s my focus.”
