SARASOTA, Fla. – Left-hander Zach Britton has extended his scoreless-innings streak to 11 today by blanking the Yankees over the first two.
He allowed back-to-back singles in the second inning, one off a broken bat, but retired the next two batters on ground balls.
Britton’s fastball is registering 96 mph on the stadium gun. Not sure how accurate it is, but that’s what it says on the scoreboard.

You can tack on five more scoreless innings for Britton if you include a minor league game, which doesn’t count in the official statistics.
Update: Britton finally allowed a run in the third inning on back-to-back singles by Melky Mesa and Nick Swisher, a passed ball and Mark Teixeira’s fielder’s choice bouncer. Andruw Jones also singled, so the run was earned.
Swisher’s ball almost removed Britton’s head.
Britton has allowed five hits and struck out two. He’s thrown 51 pitches, 33 for strikes.
Jake Fox hit his eighth homer leading off the bottom of the third inning. Orioles 2, Yankees 1.
Brian Roberts struck out in his next at-bat. His bat went flying over the Orioles’ dugout and struck a fan in the first row of seats, but the injury appears to be minor. No stretcher needed.
Update II: Luke Scott hit his first spring home run in the third inning, a two-run shot after Nick Markakis crossed the plate on a Sergio Mitre balk and Matt Wieters singled. Orioles 5, Yankees 1.
