Catcher Bengie Molina reportedly is close to signing a two-year contract with the New York Mets.

He was seeking a three-year deal until waking up one morning and realizing he’s Bengie Molina.

Things must be really slow if Molina’s negotiations are getting this much attention.

Just please tell me that Omir Santos isn’t getting screwed here.

You wonder why the Orioles seem more focused on signing a first baseman than a third baseman? Here’s the updated free-agent list, courtesy of mlbtraderumors:

I’m hyperventilating like the dude with the spicy chicken nuggets in the Wendy’s ad.

As I wrote last week, Tejada ranks ahead of Florida Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla among Oriole preferences at third base, since he wouldn’t cost any players in a trade and is willing to change positions, but Crede appears to top that list.

Not that the bar has been raised.

Crede, a Scott Boras client, is a career .254 hitter with a .748 OPS in 10 major league seasons. He’s driven in more than 75 runs only once, back in 2006. He’d plug a hole at third until Josh Bell’s ready, with Garrett Atkins moving to first.

The in-house candidates include Ty Wigginton and Scott Moore, who’s largely been forgotten because of thumb injuries the past two seasons at Triple-A Norfolk. Moore signed a minor league deal and will vie for a job over the next two months.

Add Moore to my spring training to-do list for the Orioles. Give him some starts at shortstop and second base. See if he can crack the roster in a utility role if he isn’t the regular third baseman.

And finally, the Travel Channel aired the Man v. Food episode from Sarasota last night and I actually took notes, which allowed me to again reflect on my life. Not good.

If you plan on checking out the Orioles at spring training, you might want to grab a bite at the Old Salty Dog on City Island, which specializes in fried hot dogs and angioplasties. Or Yoder’s, an Amish restaurant that’s known for its fried chicken and award-winning homemade pies. And the odds are good that I’ll stumble into Munchies Cafe, with its Super Fat Daddy sandwich that includes six cheeseburger patties and the kitchen sink (they actually put mac and cheese, chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks on this thing. An ambulance should be parked outside).
