Today’s attendance: 7,659.
Ryan Adams’ sacrifice fly scored Ty Wigginton in the eighth, Caleb Joseph had an RBI bloop single in the ninth and Wigginton followed with a three-run shot to left, but the Orioles fell eight runs short.
Manager Dave Trembley met with the media on the field after the last out.

“Pitched behind, walks, some miscues in the field,” he said. “I liked the way (Brian) Roberts played. It’s good to see him bouncing around the way he did in the field and on the bases. That’s a real plus for us. (Cesar) Izturis played a very good game for us.”
Asked about the bullpen’s recent struggles, Trembley said, “It’s been up and down. You saw two different guys in (Jason) Berken. The other day he got real good extension on his pitches and pitched down. Today he didn’t. You take the good with the bad. We know what we need to get done in order to get off to a good start in the season. We can’t play like this.”
Trembley was reserved in his praise for closer Mike Gonzalez.
“The goal was to get him out there back-to-back,” Trembley said. “I still think there’s more in the tank. He’ll turn it up, as he’s told me, when the season starts. The secondary pitches today, to his credit, were much better, and that’s what he wanted to work on today.”
You get the feeling that Trembley wants Gonzalez to turn it up now. Or a week or so ago.
Reminder that Jake Arrieta and Steve Johnson start against the Rays tomorrow in Port Charlotte. Kevin Millwood will pitch in a minor league game.
