The Orioles just provided an update on outfielder Nolan Reimold, and the news is good.
Reimold underwent a successful discectomy today at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He’s resting comfortably.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Ziya Gokaslan, Professor of Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Oncology at Hopkins.
Dr. Gokaslan removed a herniated disc from Reimold’s cervical spine that was pressing on a nerve, and he fused the vertebrae.

Dr. Gokaslan removed a herniated disc from Reimold’s cervical spine that was pressing on a nerve, and he fused the vertebrae.
Reimold is hoping to play again toward the end of the season, but that might be a bit too ambitious. So much depends on his recovery time.
Also, Miguel Tejada requested and was granted his release today after appearing in his 36th game with Triple-A Norfolk.
Tejada started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. He was batting .259 with five doubles, no home runs, 18 RBIs and a .621 OPS. That’s five extra-base hits in 135 at-bats.
Tejada, 38, was hoping for a third stint with the Orioles, but he didn’t exhibit any power – most of his hits, I’m told, went to right field – and his range at third base was limited.
Perhaps he’s got an offer from another team. Or he’s just tired of the bus rides, knowing that the Orioles didn’t have any plans to purchase his contract.
Executive vice president Dan Duquette told reporters on Saturday that Tejada didn’t have an opt-out clause in his contract and no deadline existed for bringing him to the majors.
Two days ago, 49-year-old pitcher Jamie Moyer requested and was granted his release. He had an opt-out clause and wasn’t afraid to use it.
The average age of the Norfolk roster has gone down considerably.
