SARASOTA, Fla. – Third baseman Mark Reynolds hit a grand slam off minor league pitcher Chorye Spoone in the bottom of the first inning of today’s intrasquad game.
Spoone walked the first two batters he faced and threw a wild pitch, and Vladimir Guerrero reached on an infield hit to load the bases after Luke Scott flied out. Shortstop Pedro Florimon ranged far to his right to rob Guerrero of an RBI.
Reynolds launched a 1-2 pitch over the 366-foot sign in left-center field.

Reynolds launched a 1-2 pitch over the 366-foot sign in left-center field.
Spoone threw 23 pitches, 12 for strikes, and never recorded the third out before manager Buck Showalter ended the inning. Spoone has returned for the bottom of the second.
Chris Jakubauskas retired the first six batters he faced on ground balls. Nolan Reimold ran full speed to first base, something he couldn’t do last spring.
Instant update: Spoone retired all three batters he faced in the second inning on 11 pitches.
Update II: Guerrero had an RBI grounder against Rule 5 pick Adrian Rosario in the bottom of the third to give Team 2 (that’s what I’m calling it) a 5-0 lead. Showalter again ended the inning early, as Rosario struggled with his command.
Randy Winn just hit a long home run off Troy Patton in the top of the fourth.
