Mark Reynolds has been in an offensive funk for most of the 2012 season. Now, he’s catching fire.
How does he explain it?
“It’s just baseball,” he said. “That’s all I can say.”
That’s not enough. Reporters need more. Must dissect his game like a frog in science lab.
How well is he seeing the ball?
“I don’t know if it’s that,” he said. “I’ve been putting a lot of work in, and it’s starting to show in the games. Tonight was just one of those nights. I got the pitches I was…Mark Reynolds has been in an offensive funk for most of the 2012 season. Now, he’s catching fire.

“I don’t know if it’s that,” he said. “I’ve been putting a lot of work in, and it’s starting to show in the games. Tonight was just one of those nights. I got the pitches I was looking for and I was able to hit them.”
He hit two of them over the fence as part of a four-RBI night.
“Since April to almost now, it’s been a struggle,” he said. “I’m not out of this yet. One good night doesn’t mean anything. I’ve got to keep pushing. Can’t relax. You know, I’ve got to keep playing.
“It’s just one night. Tomorrow, I can go 0-for-4 with four punchies and you guys have a new story to write, so I’m not going to be satisfied by any means. Still got to work hard and figure this thing out.
“These guys have been busting their tails all year. A lot of guys coming through, solid defense everywhere. It’s nice to finally be able to chip in and help us win tonight. Tomorrow’s another day.”
Reynolds might be saving his best for last, as the Orioles try to secure a wild card berth or win the American League East.
“It would be huge,” he said. “I know what I’m capable of. I’ve done it before. And hopefully tonight will kind of be a springboard for me and moving forward give me some confidence. When Buck (Showalter) writes me in there, I’m going to do everything I can do.”
