Rickard is batting .345/.456/.473 with five doubles, one triple and 10 RBIs in 16 games with Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles are facing left-handed starters in the last two games of their series against the Tigers before heading to the West Coast.
Trey Mancini was removed from last night’s game for a defensive replacement in the ninth inning, but he was hitting off a tee in the cage earlier today before batting practice. The drill was designed for him to drive the ball to the opposite field.
Manny Machado ranks second in the American League with a .356 average and 36 hits, third with 16 extra-base hits, tied for third with nine home runs and tied for sixth with 20 RBIs.
Andrew Cashner has made two career starts against the Tigers and allowed three runs and eight hits with 16 strikeouts in 15 innings. All three runs came over six innings in his April 17 start in Detroit.
Cashner is 1-10 with a 4.39 ERA in 14 career games against the American League Central.
Left-hander Francisco Liriano opposed Cashner on April 17 and allowed two runs over five innings in a 4-2 win. He gave up five hits, walked three and struck out seven. Mancini homered off him.
Liriano is 3-5 with a 4.10 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in 11 career starts against the Orioles and 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA and 1.957 WHIP in three starts at Camden Yards.
Adam Jones is 10-for-28 with one double and three home runs lifetime against Liriano. Craig Gentry is 2-for-14 with eight strikeouts.
Closer Zach Britton threw in the bullpen again today.
