Roberts: "I'm not concerned about missing Opening Day yet."

Brian Roberts said his stomach is feeling a lot better, though he's uncertain whether he had a reaction to medication or a virus, and he's hoping to resume baseball-related activities tomorrow. "I don't really have a timetable for sure yet," he said. President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail expressed some concern about Roberts' herniated disk and the delay in getting him into the lineup. Is Roberts worried? "It's not ideal at this point, but I'm not concerned about missing Opening Day yet," he replied. "What is today? The 10th? We still have 3 1/2 weeks almost. I'm certainly not in panic mode or anything yet." The stomach issue was a setback for Roberts, who said he'll have to start back slowly again. "My biggest thing is I'd rather be fully healthy and get 15 at-bats than try to push it and get 30 at-bats and start off at anything less than 100 percent," he said. "I'd rather get 100 percent and get a few at-bats than push it." Roberts said he didn't take the medication because his back flared up. "We were just trying to help everything a little bit, trying to get a little bit stronger medication in there to try to push it forward a little bit more," he said. "I've taken that several times throughout my career for certain things. It's always worked pretty well for me."
