Matt Albers pitched a scoreless 7th, Jim Johnson got Swisher, Teixeira and Cano out in the 8th and Koji Uehara pitched a scoreless 9th for his seventh save in seven chances.

Uehara made quick work of the Yankees in that last inning as Curtis Granderson flew out and then he struck out Jorge Posada and Colin Curtis to end it. It was an impressive 15-pitch performance, especially considering he was pitching for the third day in a row.

Matusz gave up three runs over six innings, to improve to 8-12, 4.71.

Matusz is 4-0, 2.00 over his last four starts and has an ERA of 4.28 this year when pitching vs. the AL East.

Matusz is now 2-3, 2.56 in five career starts vs. New York.

The O’s broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the seventh. Corey Patterson led off with a single off A.J. Burnett and went to second on a sac bunt. He scored with two outs on a Roberts single to right.

The O’s entered today with a record of 2-10 on the year vs. the Yankees and 17 losses in their last 19 games in New York.

The Yankees entered with a record of 86-51, a home mark of 48-23, leading the East by 2 ½ games and winners of 14 of their last 19 contests.

The O’s improve to 20-13 since Buck Showalter took over as manager and they are now 4-3 in a nine-game stretch vs. Boston, Tampa and New York.

The Orioles snapped a seven-game losing streak at New York with their first win there since last September 12 and Matusz was the winner then as well.
