Roberts was prescribed a megadose pack, similar to a cortisone shot, to reduce the inflammation in his back caused by a herniated disk. His reaction to it forced the Orioles to eliminate his baseball-related activities for three days.

Roberts began feeling ill last night. Manager Dave Trembley described Roberts’ condition as “a stomach virus.”
“He’ll be rechecked on Thursday, and we’re confident that’s when he’ll start baseball activities again.”
The Orioles believe a regular in the lineup needs 25-30 at-bats to prepare for the season.
“I’m still confident we can get him that, but I’d still like to see him on the field,” Trembley said.
“You saw him out here. He’s doing everything. He’s taking ground balls, turning double plays, taking BP. But there was still some inflammation there, so they thought maybe take this medication orally and that would alleviate it.”
