The Orioles are prepared to select left-hander Josh Rogers‘ contract from Triple-A Norfolk and give him Tuesday night’s start against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards.

A corresponding 40-man roster move is coming to accommodate Rogers, 24, who’s 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in five starts with the Tides over 30 1/3 innings. He’s allowed seven earned runs (nine total) and 26 hits with seven walks and 18 strikeouts since the Orioles acquired him from the Yankees in the Zach Britton deal.

Rogers will be the 53rd player used by the Orioles this season and the 12th to make his major league debut, two short of the club record.

Luis Ortiz also was a consideration for Tuesday night, but he remains listed as Norfolk’s starter tonight. He came to the Orioles from the Brewers in the Jonathan Schoop trade.

Rogers hasn’t pitched since Aug. 19 in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, when he allowed three earned runs and six hits over five innings. He surrendered a combined one earned run in 12 1/3 innings in his previous two starts.

The Orioles acquired Gulf Coast League infielder Jack Zoellner from the Phillies today in exchange for international signing bonus slot money.

Zoellner, 23, was a ninth-round pick in the 2017 draft out of New Mexico. He’s batting .236/.364/.422 with five doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 47 games with the GCL Phillies. He’s been playing first base this year, but made all nine of his starts last summer at third base.

“Jack Zoellner should be a good addition to our system,” executive vice president Dan Duquette wrote in a text message. “He is a capable left-handed hitter with good on-base skills and power.”

Pitcher Jhan Maríñez has been in the clubhouse for two days and the Orioles were leaning toward activating him from the disabled list. However, they’ve decided to send him back out and continue his injury rehab assignment.

Maríñez said today that his hamstring felt better, but he didn’t know what the Orioles were going to do with him.
