The Orioles have some significant ground to make up in All-Star voting.

The first ballot update was released earlier today and catcher Adley Rutschman is the closest Oriole, with 261,607 votes putting him in third place to trail the Athletics’ Shea Langerliers (715,625) and the Blue Jays’ Alejandro Kirk (298,401). The Tigers’ Dillon Dingler is fourth (261,084).

First baseman Pete Alonso has the next-best showing among Orioles. He’s in fifth place with 202,781 votes to leave him behind the Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with 603,014, the Yankees’ Ben Rice with 509,830, the White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami with 437,107 and the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz with 269,658.

Gunnar Henderson is sixth among American League shortstops with 152,643. The Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. is first with 890,575 and the Blue Jays’ Andrés Giménez is second with 354,651.

Samuel Basallo is sixth among designated hitters with 111,977 votes. The Astros’ Yordan Álvarez leads all AL players with 1,015,768, and the Blue Jays’ George Springer is next among the DH group with 323,112.

Jeremiah Jackson ranks ninth at second base with 95,132 and his start yesterday was his first since May 30. Toronto’s Ernie Clement is first with 904,702, followed by the Rangers’ Ezequiel Duran with 287,996.

The only other Oriole to appear among the leaders is outfielder Taylor Ward, who’s in 17th place with 129,622.

The top six outfielders are the Yankees’ Aaron Judge with 977,460, the Angels’ Mike Trout with 926,601, the Yankees’ Cody Bellinger with 533,842, the Twins’ Byron Buxton with 497,562, the Tigers’ Riley Greene with 422,835 and the Mariners’ Julio Rodríguez with 421,205.

Phase 1 concludes at noon Thursday, June 25. The top two vote-getters at each position, and the top six outfielders, will be revealed at 6 p.m. on MLB Network, and they will advance to the second phase to determine who makes the All-Star teams.

The leading vote-getter in each league during the first phase of will receive an automatic starting assignment and bypass the second phase.

If an outfielder is a league’s leading vote-getter, Phase 2 voting at the position will take place to determine the remaining two starters among the next four finalists.

Phase 2 begins at noon Monday, June 29 and runs until noon Thursday, July 2. All-Star starters and rosters will be announced on July 4 at 7:30 p.m. on FOX.

The All-Star Game is July 14 in Philadelphia.
