He made his major league debut Friday night, batting ninth at second base and got his first hit, going 1-for-4 against Washington.

He has been hearing from a lot of family and friends since his call-up from Triple-A Norfolk, but he said today it took a while for some of those messages to get to him.

He has been hearing from a lot of family and friends since his call-up from Triple-A Norfolk, but he said today it took a while for some of those messages to get to him.

“When I was in Lehigh Valley, before we went to Syracuse, my phone broke,” Adams said. “So I got called up and I didn’t even have a phone. I went and got a new phone the other day and 75 text messages popped up. It was cool to see a lot of people giving me support.”

His first big league hit was a fourth-inning single Friday off Jason Marquis. That baseball will now find a place in his parents’ house.

“The guys put the ball in my locker and after the game I got it. I gave it to my mom,” Adams said. “I guess they will put it somewhere special at the house. It’s a special thing. I say for my mom, but it’s for my parents really. It was a special moment.

“It was an emotional night. I didn’t really have that much action until that first hit. I didn’t really have any plays, but it was definitely exciting.”

Adams said he didn’t feel nervous during his first game with the Orioles.

“When I was out there, it was just like I was playing baseball again. There were a few times I was sitting on the bench and looked around and it was pretty cool. When you are out there, I was trying to stay focused.

“You don’t really know what to expect coming to the park. But it’s something you dream about your whole life. This is the ultimate goal. Now I need to make the most of any opportunity I get.”

Adams said one thing he is confident of is that he can hit major league pitching. He’s been a solid hitter throughout his minor league career.

“Absolutely. It’s just something I take pride in and have worked hard at. I just have a lot of confidence in myself,” Adams said.
