The Orioles go for their fourth sweep this morning in an 11:35 a.m. Roku game against the Braves.
Their record against the National League improved to 7-13, and they’re 1-6 in interleague series.
A win today would bring them to nine games below .500 for the first time since June 20 in New York.
Catcher Gary Sánchez left yesterday’s game with right knee discomfort and is out of today’s lineup. He underwent an MRI and the Orioles summoned David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk for their medical taxi squad.
Running thin again at the position, the Orioles acquired catcher Alex Jackson from the Yankees today in exchange for international bonus pool space and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Jackson, 29, was the sixth-overall pick by the Mariners in the 2014 draft. He has 124 games of major league experience, including 58 with the Rays last season, and is a career .132/.224/.232 hitter. He’s also played for the Braves, Marlins and Brewers.
Jackson, a right-handed hitter, was playing for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and slashing .226/.308/.463 with seven doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 44 games.
Jacob Stallings is behind the plate this afternoon. Jordan Westburg is sitting.
Coby Mayo has returned to the lineup. He’s playing first base and batting eighth.
Ryan O’Hearn is the designated hitter, and the outfield remains set with Colton Cowser in left, Cedric Mullins in center and Ramón Laureano in right.
Left-hander Trevor Rogers has posted a 2.05 ERA in four starts, with five runs allowed in 22 innings. He’s 0-7 with a 5.57 ERA and 1.524 WHIP in nine career starts against the Braves, and 0-4 with a 5.28 ERA and 1.345 WHIP in six starts at Truist Park.
Ronald Acuña Jr. is 6-for-14 with three doubles and a home run against Rogers. Ozzie Albies is 8-for-22 with a double.
Matt Olson is 1-for-13 with a double and six strikeouts.
Acuña is on the bench today.
Right-hander Grant Holmes, the 22nd-overall pick by the Dodgers in the 2014 draft, has a 3.47 ERA and 1.240 WHIP in 18 games (17 starts). His 45 walks in 96 innings led the National League yesterday, but he has also struck out 113.
In his last start, Holmes shut out the Angels on three hits in six innings and struck out 10.
Holmes has never faced the Orioles.
The Braves selected right-hander Jesse Chavez’s contract and optioned left-hander Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett.
