Outfielder Anthony Santander and reliever Keegan Akin are back on the 26-man roster as the Orioles begin their next homestand with three games against the Rays. Santander is playing right field.
Outfielder Kyle Stowers and reliever Rico Garcia were sent back down to Triple-A Norfolk after yesterday’s game.
Trey Mancini returns to the lineup and is playing first base. He missed the last three games in Toronto with swelling in his right hand.
Adley Rutschman is catching and batting sixth.
Ryan Mountcastle is 11-for-27 (.407) with four homers, eight RBIs and eight runs scored during his six-game hitting streak.
Rougned Odor went 4-for-12 with two doubles, a triple, a homer and four RBIs in the previous series versus the Rays.
Dean Kremer is making his third start since returning from an oblique strain. He held the Royals to one earned run (two total) in five innings Sunday for his first victory since his major league debut on Sept. 6, 2020.
Kremer is 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA in two career starts against the Rays.
The Orioles were swept in a three-game series at Tropicana Field to open the season and won two of three games at Camden Yards. The victories came in 13 and 11 innings.
Tampa Bay right-hander Shane Baz, the Pirates’ first-round draft pick in 2017, is making his second start this year and the fifth of his career. He faced the Twins last weekend and retired the first six batters before allowing five runs with three walks in 2 1/3 innings.
Baz, who was the player to be named later in the Chris Archer trade that also netted Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow, has never faced the Orioles.
Ji-Man Choi’s 13-game hitting streak ended yesterday.
The Rays have lost three games in a row and are in third place in the American League East at 35-28. They’re 14-15 on the road.
