Toronto leads, 2-0, in the top of the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Yan Gomes in the first inning and a two-out RBI double by Adeiny Hechavarria in the fourth.

Saunders has thrown 60 pitches, 38 for strikes.

Matt Wieters has two more hits tonight, making him 26-for-75 this month.

Instant update: Saunders retired the side in order in the fifth, getting a nice lunging stop and throw from first baseman Mark Reynolds to end the inning.

Reynolds saved third baseman Manny Machado from committing a throwing error in the fourth by coming off the bag to snare one of the rookie’s lasers.

Update II: Saunders is charged with four runs (three earned) and 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings. He allowed a season-high 12 hits against the Marlins in his final start for the Diamondbacks on Aug. 20.

Saunders walked none and struck out two. He threw 94 pitches, 62 for strikes.

The Blue Jays scored twice in the top of the seventh, and one run was unearned after Machado committed his fourth error. Luis Ayala let an inherited runner score on Edwin Encarnacion’s single.

The Orioles are being shut out by Jays left-hander Aaron Laffey. And I know there’s a joke about how this is no Laffey matter.

Wieters and J.J. Hardy have accounted for four of the Orioles five hits. Adam Jones reached on an infield single.

Update III: The game got a lot more interesting after the eighth inning.

Dylan Bundy entered in the top of the ninth with the Orioles trailing, 4-0. Meanwhile, the Yankees are beating the Twins, 2-1, in the fifth because that’s what they always do.

Bundy, who retired both batters he faced Sunday in his major league debut in Boston, walked J.P. Arencibia and gave up a bloop single to Anthony Gose. He retired Brett Lawrie on a fly ball to right and got Colby Rasmus to ground into a 6-3 double play on a 3-0 count.

Bundy threw 22 pitches, 12 for strikes. His fastball hit 95 mph four times. He also used his changeup, curveball and slider.

Bundy ran the count full to the first two batters and threw an 85 mph slider to Arencibia and an 86 mph changeup to Gose. He appeared to shake off Wieters before Gose’s soft single into center field.

That makes 1 2/3 scoreless innings for Bundy, who earlier today received his award as the Orioles’ minor league Pitcher of the Year.

Casey Janssen worked the bottom of the ninth for Toronto and retired Ryan Flaherty on a fly ball after loading the bases. Orioles lose, 4-0.

Flaherty skied the first pitch from Janssen after LJ Hoes pinch-ran for Jim Thome at first base. Hoes made his major league debut and became the 52nd player to appear in a game for the Orioles.
