Jonathan Schoop proved tonight that he also can double in games that don’t count.
Schoop entered tonight’s All-Star Game at second base in the bottom of the fourth inning and batted in the top of the fifth against Dodgers left-hander Alex Wood. Schoop grounded a double down the left field line with two outs and two strikes, and he scored on a bloop single inside the right field line by Twins third baseman Miguel Sanó.

Schoop fell behind 0-2 by taking a strike and swinging through a changeup. He ran the count to 2-2 and doubled on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, the third changeup thrown by Wood.
Sanó’s single scored Schoop with the game’s first run, giving the American League a 1-0 lead.
Schoop leads the Orioles with 23 doubles, six more than runner-up Manny Machado, who’s watching from the stands at Marlins Park.
Schoop first gained notice in the bottom of the fourth by taking Mookie Betts’ throw from center field and applying the tag on Nolan Arenado.
In the bottom of the fifth, Schoop fielded a ground ball from the Rockies’ Charlie Blackmon and made the throw for the second out of the inning.
The lone Orioles representative is making a nice impression in his first All-Star Game.
Major League Baseball paused between innings to Stand Up To Cancer. Schoop held up a card with the name of Monica Barlow, the former Orioles public relations director who died on Feb. 28, 2014 after a 4 1/2-year battle with Stage 4 lung cancer.
He can do no wrong tonight.
