The first error came when he was charged with fielder’s interference, ruled by the umpires, that sent a baserunner from second to third base and putting runners on the corners with no outs for Lynchburg.

Bobby Bundy then issued his third walk of the night to load the bases for the Hillcats.

Then came a bizarre play that ended with Schoop adding his second and third errors. A Lynchburg batter hit a grounder to second and it looked like the start of a 4-6-3 double play that would score a run.

But when second baseman Garabez Rosa flipped the ball to Schoop at the second base bag, he dropped it for error No. 2. That led to a crazy rundown play on the bases where Frederick would eventually record two outs.

The Keys would have had a third out – a triple play – with a run scoring, but Schoop’s throw to third during the rundown was a wild one allowing a second run to score.

So the young man from Curacao who is having a great year at bat, had a half-inning in the field to forget. Lynchburg leads 3-1 in the seventh. Joe Mahoney has an RBI double for Frederick.

End of game update: Lynchburg held on to beat Frederick tonight 3-2 in front of 6,752 as the Keys lose for just the second time in their last 11 games. They will not add to their six-game lead atop the Northern Division tonight. Joe Mahoney knocked in one run with an RBI double and pinch hitter Bobby Stevens got the other RBI when he drew a bases-loaded walk. The Keys are now 38-24.
