The conclusion of the World Series last night ignited the start of free agency, beginning with 149 players hitting the market earlier this afternoon.

Three more Orioles will join the group. Catcher Welington Castillo is expected to decline his $7 million player option, and the club will decline shortstop J.J. Hardy’s $14 million option and pitcher Wade Miley’s $12 million option.

Hardy has a $2 million buyout and Miley has a $500,000 buyout.

The Orioles signed Castillo over the winter to a $6 million deal for 2017 and included the $7 million player option, distinguishing it from an opt-out clause.

Teams have an exclusive five-day negotiating period with their own free agents before the players hit the open market. Castillo has until Saturday to inform the Orioles of his decision.
