Orioles pitcher Jason Hammel hasn’t won since May 27.
It’s going to be a while before he can make another attempt to end the streak.
Hammel was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with a right flexor mass strain. In 21 starts for the Orioles, Hammel is 7-8 with a 5.20 ERA over 123 innings.
“He’s eligible on the 13th (of August), which is the first day we’d need a fifth starter if we want to use the off-days,” Showalter said. “He’s had some flexor mass tenderness…Orioles pitcher Jason Hammel hasn’t won since May 27.

“He’s had some flexor mass tenderness that’s been bothering him on the slider. He’s managing it pretty well, but we just want to see if we can get it resolved during the DL period.
“Just to be on the safe side, I think they’re trying to set up an MRI where they can get an idea if we’re dealing with something we don’t think we’re dealing with. It’s really been a challenge for him with the slider.
“It’s been something that’s been better some days than others. Every pitcher in there’s got something. You’re going to have it with your arm, your shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers, blisters, nails breaking. It’s just something that’s been real nagging, and it’s not getting any better.
“We talked the day before he went out to have his work day, and it doesn’t seen to be getting any better. We hoped during the All-Star break that it would clear up. It felt really good his first start, and then it came back at the 60-pitch mark, somewhere around there. So we’re just going to try to clean that up.”
Hammel will meet with reporters in the dugout at 5 p.m.
Also, newest Oriole Bud Norris will wear No. 25.
Yes, more to come.
