The Nationals’ Matt Williams was named National League Manager of the Year after receiving four votes. The Cardinals’ Mike Matheny received two votes and the Marlins’ Mike Redmond one.
Ballots were submitted by managers in both leagues prior to the postseason. As you can tell, there wasn’t full participation.
Showalter won the award in 2012 after leading the Orioles to their first winning season and playoff berth in 15 years. Scioscia won it this year after leading the Angels to the best record in baseball.
Showalter also won it in 1994 with the Yankees, and he shared the honor with the Twins’ Rod Gardenhire in 2004 while managing the Rangers.
The Sporting News will reveal the All-Star teams in both leagues on Wednesday, followed by the Player of the Year on Thursday.
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America will announce its Rookies of the Year on Nov. 10, Managers of the Year on Nov. 11, Cy Young winners on Nov. 12 and Most Valuable Players on Nov. 13. The selections will air on MLB Network each day at 6 p.m.
