Alfredo Simon gave the Orioles two scoreless innings, striking out two in the 10th and stranding the potential go-ahead run at second base.
Jason Berken is warming up. Manager Buck Showalter must be testing him again.
The Orioles’ short bench only includes Jake Fox. Showalter understood the need for the extra bullpen arm when he got here, but maybe a fourth reserve would be more beneficial.
Nick Markakis’ four hits tonight are a season high.

Update: They don’t need Berken. Adam Jones bounced a 2-1 fastball into left field to score Markakis, who hustled to third on Luke Scott’s single to center field. Tremendous hustle by Markakis, clutch hit by Jones, who popped up with the bases loaded in the eighth.
That’s four in a row!
Down on the farm, Joe Mahoney went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and four runs scored in Double-A Bowie’s 13-2 victory over New Hampshire.
Ryan Adams went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. His 40 doubles are a Bowie single-season record.
Rick Zagone allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Triple-A Norfolk’s Tim Bascom gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings at Louisville, raising his ERA to 7.28.
Billy Rowell didn’t start either end of Single-A Frederick’s doubleheader. Not sure why.
