Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen retired 10 batters in a row and 12 of 13 as he entered the top of the fifth inning.
A double, wild pitch and one-out single in the fifth cut the Orioles’ lead in half.
The first career home run by the Rockies’ No. 9 hitter in the sixth tied the game.
Chen has allowed 32 runs this season. Seven have come in the sixth inning, six in the seventh and two in the eighth. That’s 15 by my math.

Rockies left fielder Charlie Culberson continued the tradition of ninth-place hitters tormenting the Orioles. I know that they’re not batting a collective .800 this season, but it sure feels that way.
Chen threw three consecutive 91 mph fastballs to get ahead 1-2, then offered up an 80 mph slider that landed in the left field seats.
Didn’t two Diamondbacks hit their first home runs of the season in the same game against the Orioles? I believe their names were Wil Nieves and Adam Eaton. Eaton’s was the first of his career. Same with Houston’s Robbie Grossman.
Chen has thrown 98 pitches, 72 for strikes, over six innings.
The Orioles aren’t offering much run support, but what else is new? In Chen’s last 38 starts, the Orioles have scored three runs or fewer 25 times while he was in the game.
Scoring only once in the third could come back to haunt the Orioles. They loaded the bases with one out, scored on Adam Jones’ single and got nothing else.
Updated: Michael Cuddyer walked leading off the seventh and Wilin Rosario drove a 91 mph fastball over the out-of-town scoreboard in right to give Colorado a 4-2 lead.
Chen was done after retiring Todd Helton. He allowed four runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, with one walk, seven strikeouts, a wild pitch and two home runs. He threw 105 pitches, 75 for strikes.
Chen has allowed 34 runs this season, with 17 coming after the fifth inning.
Francisco Rodriguez replaced Chen and retired both batters that he faced.
