The Orioles scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead and position Brian Matusz for the win.

Matusz is charged with one run and three hits in six innings, with two walks (one intentional), four strikeouts and one hit batter. He threw 99 pitches, 60 for strikes.

That’s seven consecutive quality starts from the rotation, the first time it’s happened since July 2003.

The starters have allowed 10 earned runs in their last 47 2/3 innings.

Ty Wigginton homered with one out in the sixth to tie the game. Luke Scott singled, Adam Jones reached on third baseman Dayan Viciedo’s error and Felix Pie singled to load the bases. Matt Wieters followed with a ground ball to first baseman Paul Konerko, who stepped on the bag for the second out and threw late to the plate.

Bad, bad decision.

Konerko should have gone to second and waited for the return throw. Wieters is slow, and I don’t think it’s a secret. The White Sox could have executed the 3-6-3 double play and kept the game tied.

Koji Uehara retired the side in order in the seventh, and he did it in five pitches. He caught Brent Lillibridge’s pop up to end the inning.

Down on the farm, Chris Tillman has allowed one run and seven hits in six innings, with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Update: Alfredo Simon is warming in the bullpen. Uehara has retired all six batters he’s faced on only 16 pitches. The White Sox haven’t gotten a ball out of the infield. You bet I’d run him back out there.
