If you read Roch Kubatko’s morning post on the importance of today’s Orioles exhibition game, then you know it’s a big day for starting pitcher Tyler Wilson, who, amid Miguel Gonzalez’s command struggles this spring, finds himself competing for a spot in the starting rotation.
Wilson has a 2.89 ERA over four spring appearances, including two starts, while giving up just four runs (three earned) and 11 hits. With another strong outing today, Wilson could make manager Buck Showalter’s last week of spring training a little more difficult while trying to set the starting rotation for the start of the regular season.
That being said, let’s take a look at Wilson’s first major league start for this week’s #TBT. In a spot start in the first game of a doubleheader against the White Sox due to the unrest in Baltimore last year, Wilson pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits.
Check out highlights of Wilson’s impressive his first start in The Show and be sure to check back next week for another Orioles Throwback Thursday!
