It probably won’t come as a shock to anyone that the first ball put in play by the Rays managed to find Miguel Tejada at third base.
Tejada fielded Jason Bartlett’s grounder and made a strong throw to first.
It’s all downhill from here.
Carl Crawford showed bunt on the next pitch, but pulled back.
Kevin Millwood threw 18 pitches in the first inning, 10 for strikes. He fanned Evan Longoria on a 91 mph fastball with the count full to strand Ben Zobrist at second base.

The Orioles made James Shields throw six pitches in the top of the first. That’s all. Adam Jones lined one of them into center field for a double.
Luke Scott walked with the count full to open the second inning. I’m sure Millwood appreciated Scott’s patience. At least he had time to sit down.
Update: The Rays are making Millwood work, fouling off enough pitches to distribute souvenirs to everyone in attendance. The veteran right-hander threw 20 pitches in the second, 16 for strikes, while retiring the side in order. Millwood has thrown 38 pitches in two innings, 26 for strikes. He’s fanned three of the seven batters he’s faced, and his fastball has been in the 89-91 mph range.
