Update: It was gut-check time in the sixth, and Arrieta showed no fear. He left the bases loaded by striking out Marcus Thames on a nasty slider. Mark Teixeira led off the inning with a double and took third on a sac bunt. Arrieta issued two intentional walks around Jorge Posada’s shallow fly ball to center. He’s up to 106 pitches. All four hits off him have been for extra bases.

Tonight’s attendance: 27,064.

Tim Bascom, drafted one round ahead of Arrieta in 2007, has held Gwinnett to one run over five innings in his Triple-A debut. He’s allowed four hits, walked one and struck out five.

The Tides have one hit through four innings, a Rhyne Hughes single.

Jacob Julius hit his sixth home run tonight for Single-A Frederick. Miguel Abreu is 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Billy Rowell also is 2-for-2.
