Coming off an uninspiring win, Bergesen shut down the Twins for 6 2/3 innings tonight. He allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out none. Manager Dave Trembley removed him after 97 pitches with the tying runs on base.

Will Ohman replaced him and walked Justin Morneau to load the bases before striking out Jim Thome.

Bergesen would have completed the seventh if first baseman Rhyne Hughes had fielded Orlando…I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a little better about Brad Bergesen.

Bergesen was much sharper tonight than his return engagement against the Red Sox, when he allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings. He called it his ugliest victory, though he wasn’t going to give it back.

This one is a keeper.

Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk’s Michael Aubrey has hit his second homer of the season. Pedro Viola walked the only batter he faced, and Kam Mickolio allowed the inherited runner to score, leaving Viola’s ERA at 21.60. Mickolio also let his own runner score in the eighth.

Double-A Bowie’s Joel Guzman has doubled and hit his sixth homer. Chorye Spoone was charged with six runs and 10 hits in six innings.

Single-A Delmarva center fielder Steven Bumbry is 3-for-5 with a triple to raise his average to .326.
