Bergesen gave up four hits over seven innings and ends his year at 8-12, 4.98. He threw 89 pitches in his 28th start.

With a win, the O’s would have recorded a season-high, five-game win streak. They won four in a row seven times on the season. They were also trying for their first four-game home sweep of the Tigers since April 17-20 of 1992.

Brandon Inge hit a two-run homer to tie the game 2-2 in the 5th and Johnny Damon’s RBI single an inning later made it a 3-2 lead. Detroit scored a run in the 9th, thanks in part to a Brandon Snyder error.

Luke Scott and Nick Markakis had RBI singles for the Orioles.

Markakis went 3 for 5 to finish with an average of .297. He would have needed to go 5 for 5 to finish at .300.

The Orioles won 34 games after their 73rd loss to tie the 1997 Phillies for the Major League record for most wins after loss number 73, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

The O’s finished with a home record of 37-44 and went 34-23 under Buck Showalter, a winning percentage of .596.

Today’s attendance was 23,914 and the season total for 80 dates was 1,733,019.
