Maybe the next crop of young guns in the Orioles farm system calls Perdue Stadium home.
In case you haven’t noticed, the current six-man starting rotation at Delmarva is putting up some remarkable numbers lately for the Shorebirds. The Delmarva starting pitching has combined to allow just three earned runs over its last ten starts dating back to July 6th. That is 3 ER over 59 2/3 for an ERA of 0.45 during the stretch.

In case you haven’t noticed, the current six-man starting rotation at Delmarva is putting up some remarkable numbers lately for the Shorebirds. The Delmarva starting pitching has combined to allow just three earned runs over its last ten starts dating back to July 6th. That is 3 ER over 59 2/3 for an ERA of 0.45 during the stretch.
The six players that are currently in the Delmarva starting rotation are Matt Hobgood, Kenny Moreland, Jesse Beal, Pat Kantakevich, Robert Bundy and Brent Allar. Luis Noel pitched once during this run, then was promoted to Frederick and Allar moved into his rotation spot. Three of the six are 20 or younger while the others are older and were signed out of college by the Orioles.
Here is the rundown of Delmarva’s last ten starts:
7-6 vs. Hickory – Noel: 8IP, 5H, 1R, 1ER, 0B, 10K.
7-7 vs. Hickory – Moreland: 7IP, 5H, 1R, 0ER, 1B, 3K.
7-8 at Lakewood – Beal: 7IP, 7H, 1R, 1ER, 0B, 4K.
7-9 at Lakewood – Kantakevich: 4IP, 3H, 0R, 0ER, 2B, 6K.
7-10 at Lakewood – Bundy: 6IP, 2H, 2R, 0ER, 2B, 3K.
7-11 at Lakewood – Hobgood: 4IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 1B, 4K.
7-12 at Lakewood – Allar: 5IP, 2H, 0R, 0ER, 1B, 8K.
7-14 vs. West Virginia – Moreland: 6 2/3IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 0B, 8K.
7-15 vs. West Virginia – Beal: 7IP, 3H, 0R, 0ER, 1B, 5K.
7-16 vs. West Virginia – Kantakevich: 5IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 3B, 3K.
TOTALS: 59 2/3IP, 34H, 7R, 3ER, 11B, 54K.
That is seven different starters that have pitched during the streak to a mark of 5-0, 0.45. Bundy is scheduled to pitch tonight to try and keep the roll going for the Birds starting pitchers.
Kantakevich is 0-2, 2.70 on the year. The 23-year-old righty was a 22nd-round pick out of William & Mary from 2008 and has pitched to an ERA of 2.31 in three starts since joining the rotation.
Beal is 7-5, 3.42 over 17 starts. The 14th-round pick from 2008 has worked to an ERA of 2.25 in three July starts. Beal turned 20 just last Monday.
Bundy is 2-4, 3.77 in 19 games, 9 starts. He is an 8th-round pick from 2008 that has pitched to an ERA of 3.60 in his starts and has allowed a batting average against of just .223 on the year. Bundy turned 20 last January.
Moreland was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Christopher Newport University in June of 2008. He is 5-3, 2.81 in nine Delmarva starts. The 24-year-old righty has pitched to an ERA of 1.75 over seven starts since the beginning of June.
Allar is 2-0, 4.45 in 20 games making just the one start. The 25-year-old Allar was drafted in round 14 in 2006 out of TCU and has fanned 40 over 32 1/3 on the year.
Hobgood, last June’s first-round pick, is 3-7, 4.16 over 14 starts. Hobgood, who will turn 20 on August 3rd, has pitched to an ERA of 2.52 over his last five starts.
