At that time, the doctors then will determine what will come next for the 20-year-old right-hander. Hobgood has been rehabbing a strained rotator cuff. The examination in mid-February will determine if the rehab process has led to improvement for Hobgood’s shoulder.
He has yet to begin a throwing program that pitchers participate in leading into spring training. No matter what the doctors decide in a couple of weeks, the chance that Hobgood could be ready to pitch when the minor league seasons begin in April is very unlikely.
Hobgood went 1-2, 4.73 in eight Bluefield starts in 2009 and last summer went 3-7, 4.40 in 21 starts over 94 innings with Delmarva.
In late December, Hobgood talked about his injury with MASNsports.com.
