On a day the Orioles rallied from three runs down to tie the Yankees when they were down to their last out, they still lost the game, falling 6-3 in 11 innings. New York wins both games here in the rain-shortened series.
The Orioles fall to 8-12 and are just 2-11 over the last 13 games.
Robinson Cano, who had been 0-for-4, doubled to lead off the 11th off Jason Berken and then stole third base when catcher Matt Wieters tried to gun him down straying off the bag at second. It became a 5-3 game on Derek Jeter’s slow dribber to third that went for another infield safety. When Curtis Granderson singled off Brian Roberts glove, the Yankees had a 6-3 lead.
Down 3-0 the Orioles rallied. Mark Reynolds’ two-run homer in the seventh made it 3-2 and snapped an 0-for-22 stretch for Reynolds. The Orioles tied it in the ninth against Mariano Rivera on Roberts’ two-out RBI double.
The Orioles fall to 2-4 on this homestand and to 0-4 on the year versus the Yankees. The Orioles have scored three runs or less nine times over the 2-11, 13-game stretch and 11 times on the season, going 1-10 in those games.
