The second inning (and the third)

Brian Matusz gave up a two-out double to Yadier Molina and a single to David Freese in the second inning, but the Cardinals didn't score. Left fielder Nolan Reimold almost threw out Molina at second. Molina reached third on Freese's hit, but he left the game with an apparent hamstring injury. I think he has a bad case of slow. Matusz fanned Ryan Ludwick for the second out. He threw 20 pitches, 14 for strikes. Rich Hill threw 12 pitches in a scoreless second inning. Felix Pie reached on an infield hit with two outs and stole second base after breaking too soon for the bag. Hill threw behind him, but Pie made it safely to second. The third inning: Matusz, with his grandparents in attendance, has allowed three hits and struck out two in three scoreless innings. Brendan Ryan reached on an infield hit and stole second. He advanced to third on Julio Lugo's bouncer, but held up as first baseman Brandon Snyder gloved Felipe Lopez's scorching one-hopper and raced to the bag for the out. Very impressive play. Albert Pujols grounded sharply to third to strand Ryan. The Orioles almost built on their 2-0 lead in the third, but Lou Montanez was thrown out at the plate on Snyder's single. Score it 8-6-2. Montanez walked and stole second. Josh Bell struck out looking at a nasty curveball with the count full to end the inning. Hill is out of the game. He allowed two runs and four hits in three innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. He threw 62 pitches, 37 for strikes. Molina left the game with a strained right oblique.
