Down on the farm, Single-A Delmarva shortstop Manny Machado is 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, as the Shorebirds lead Charleston, 8-0, in the seventh inning. Machado has raised his average to .349.

Update: Machado was removed for a pinch-hitter in the seventh, but he’s not hurt. The Shorebirds had a big lead and will play an early game tomorrow. Manager Ryan Minor was resting him.

Left fielder Kipp Schutz is 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, leaving his average at .375. Third baseman Jonathan Schoop is 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. He’s batting .327.

Scott Copeland, a 21st-round pick last year out of Southern Mississippi, is blanking Charleston on three hits over six innings, with four walks and six strikeouts.

First baseman Tyler Townsend hit his fourth home run for Single-A Frederick. He’s batting .321.

Double-A Bowie’s Wynn Pelzer allowed two runs and four hits in six innings, with five walks and five strikeouts. Both runs scored on home runs. The Baysox trail Harrisburg, 2-0.
