Remember when the Orioles were last in the league with runners in scoring position with a .217 average? Since Aug. 3, they rank first with a .417 average and 37 RBIs.
The 37 RBIs are more than the Yankees (11), Athletics (11) and Royals (10) combined.
The Orioles are batting .300 since Aug. 3, the highest team average in the league. They’re the only AL East team in the top five.
Corey Patterson’s home run last night was his first against a lefty since Aug. 13, 2008, when he connected off Pittsburgh’s Paul Maholm.
According to Elias, Buck Showalter is the first manager in history to win at least seven of his first eight games after taking over a team in midseason that was at least 20 games below .500. Only three other managers have registered three walk-off victories among their first seven wins with a new team – the Reds’ Bob Allen in 1900, the Tigers’ George Stallings in 1901 and the Reds’ Jack Hendricks in 1924.
Down on the farm, Nolan Reimold went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base today in Triple-A Norfolk’s 7-4 loss to Indianapolis. Dennis Sarfate struck out two in a scoreless eighth.
Former Oriole Brian Burres got the win after allowing three runs and six hits in six innings. He’s 5-4 with a 4.40 ERA for Indy.
